The Middle Wife

'The Middle Wife'

I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second grade classroom a few years back.

When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they're welcome.

Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater.

She holds up a snapshot of an infant. 'This is Luke, my baby brother, and I'm going to tell you about his birthday.

First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mom's stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord.

She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement.

Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, 'Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh!' Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans. 'She walked around the house for, like an hour, 'Oh, oh, oh!' (Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning.)

My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn't have a sign on the car like the Domino's man. They got my Mom to lie down in bed like this.' (Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall.)

And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like psshhheew!' (This kid has her legs spread with her little hands mimicking water flowing away. It was too much!)

Then the middle wife starts saying 'push, push,' and 'breathe, breathe. They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all said it was from Mom's play-center, (placenta) so there must be a lot of toys inside there. When he got out, the middle wife spanked him for crawling up in there.

Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat. I'm sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it's show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just in case another Middle Wife' comes along.

Live every day as if it is your LAST chance to make someone happy!!!!

IVF Update

Well yesterday morning was both Doug and myself testing appointments. Doug had to go over to Wash U for his STD test and semen analysis, and I headed over to Quest for my STD and glucose test. For my one test, it consisted of a 2 hour Glucose Tolerance Test and this test was terrible. That fruit punch stuff I had to drink had to be drank within 5 minutes and it was the nastiest stuff. Now I love sugary coffee and tea etc. Everyone always says do you want some Coffee/Tea with that sugar? But this stuff was more than sugar and then it hits your empty stomach like a ton of bricks. But I managed to keep it down and had the blood drawn 2 more times before leaving. Now I just hope the test comes back clean and I didn't fail it so I don't have to take it all over again. To be honest I think the waiting was the worse part. OK so now all test are done and now we just have to wait for all the results back. Before I left work yesterday Dr. Keller called and gave me Doug's Sperm analysis test and it was OK. So far so good!

IVF Doctors Appointment UPDATE!

Well today was my first appointment. I sat down and had a consultation with Dr. Keller and she tells me I am definitely an IVF Candidate and "lets get the ball rolling". She asked me tons of medical history questions and then proceeds to tell me what we will be doing and what needs to be done. First we are starting off with me a 2 hour fasting glucose test and blood work. And Doug will do his semen analysis. Then we will schedule our orientation to learn how everything works and how to administer all the drugs. Then my next cycle we will begin the shots and then after 8 weeks of my shots it will be retrieval day then 5 days later we hope to have a baby to be put back in. Fingers Crossed!

Dougs Hunting Accident

Sorry its blurry, but its off my camera phone. This past hunting season, Doug was gutting a deer when his knife slipped and cut his finger half off. As soon as I found out what happen I took him to the ER and had them stitch it back on. I think it was 8 stitches all together. A week later the stitches were due to come out, so he had his Cousin Mel who is going to school to be a nurse take them out. She said good thing we are doing this now, they are starting to grow under the skin. But the next day that darn finger busted back open. So we kept butterfly stitch band-aids on it and let it heal up. All in all it looks good, not that much of a scar but he lost all his feeling in it where he cut it.

Right Now He Is The Baby In The Family

This is my baby, the most lovable, smartest lap dog. If you ask Doug he will tell you, how much this Dog loves me. Everyday he goes to Doug's parents house while we are away at work, or bowling etc. When Doug gets home he picks him up and brings him home. As soon as Tanner gets in the house, he runs as fast as he can and jumps up onto my lap and gives me kisses. And the best part, when he has to go potty he jumps down off my chair and jumps on Doug's lap and barks to have Doug let him out. Same goes for in the middle of the night when he needs to go out. He sleeps on my side of the bed on the floor. So he does not wake me up he will walk around the bed and then jump on Doug's back to wake him out. Can we say SMART! And now he can give high fives, shake with both hands and roll over. But after he is done if you ignore him, he will bark at you because every time after he is done doing his tricks, he expects a treat. Can we say SPOILED also!

Kids Korner

These are just some Random photos of some very important kids in my life! and I adore them all!

This is my best friend Amy Trost's little girl Kaylee. She is such a joy to be around, even though I don't get to spend as much time with her and I would like to.
This is Amy's other child the oldest. Dominic, he is my little buddy and I got to hold him, the day he was born. In this pic, he is giving me crap, because all day I tried to take his pic and he would aggravate me and not let me take it. Well Amy and I tricked him and I finally got a pic and he said to me you butt head!

Oh and the Trost Family is about to have a new addition to the family here real soon. We will be welcoming Baby Girl #3.

This is Emily we call her Emmy. She is my Husbands Cousins daughter. In this picture she just got done eating not chocolate as it may look, but its DIRT! And she loved it, can you tell by the smile on her face!

This is Miss Finley, she is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen. She is always happy with a great personality. And most importantly she take the cutest pictures, she is almost always smiling in every picture. But I have a feeling she is used to it, because her momma Jenn http://toth2006.blogspot.com/is is always taking pictures of her everyday!
This is one of my favorite pictures of her, besides Matt's bed head hair going on.
Miss Finley again, I really wish I knew what she was thinking here.

Garage Sale Addict For My Unborn Child

Here is just a few things OK ALOT of things I have purchased for when we have our Child.

Toy Boy Filled with Toys

The Toy Box.
Look at that Pig Piggy bank, it is a ballerina and I just think this is the cutest thing. I won this at a picnic for a penny.
The Closet filled with clothes. Don't think I will need clothes for a while. There is newborn all the way up to 4T. And I'm pretty sure that I will have a well dressed baby, but wont get to use all these clothes. And yes it looks like alot of girls clothes, but there is boy outfits there to, they are just on the other end. It is so much easier buying girls clothes and to be honest that is what I am hoping to have.

1 Jump a roo Bouncy and just a activity bouncy.

Attitude

Attitude is Everything

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. 'Well,' she said, 'I think I'll braid my hair today.' So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. 'H-M-M,' she said, 'I think I'll part my hair down the middle today.' So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. 'Well,' she said, 'today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail.' So she did, and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. 'YAY!' she exclaimed. 'I don't have to fix my hair today!'

Attitude is everything.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly, and pray continually.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... It's about learning to dance in the rain. It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived. Life is too short to wake up with regrets. Love the people who treat you right and pray for the ones that don't.
